Surgeon ‘strangled nurse with elastic cord and said ‘”I should kill you for this” after she gave wrong medicine to patient’

A surgeon allegedly attacked a nurse from behind by wrapping an elastic cord around her neck in a fit of rage.

Venkatesh Sasthakonar has been arrested for allegedly assaulting the 51-year-old female at Nassau University Medical Center in New York.

Police say it happened on Monday afternoon after the two had a disagreement.

The surgeon was said to be furious that the unnamed nurse had given medication to one of his patients at the wrong time.

He allegedly said ‘I should kill you for this’ while he assaulted her.

Sasthakonar was arraigned Tuesday on charges of strangulation and assault.

His lawyer said the charges were ‘overblown.’

The medical center released a statement saying the doctor has been suspended and that at no time was patient safety affected.

Sasthakonar has been a surgeon at the hospital since 2008. He performs bariatric surgeries on obese patients.
