Cheerleader, 16, dies on her way to school after crashing while not wearing a seat belt

A teenage cheerleader who was not wearing a seat belt has been killed in a car crash.

Macie Behringer, 16, was driving by herself when she lost control of her car, which slid into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming vehicle.

Behringer, also a gymnast, was pronounced dead at the scene in Lake Township, Ohio, Cleveland19.com reported.

The other driver – who was wearing a seat belt – suffered only minor injuries. Police said that that excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Counselors and local clergy are at the school to speak with students to cope with what has been described as a ‘devastating loss’ which has left many students heart-broken.
